And except for Zone of the Enders, and Boktai (which wasn't a succes over here), he only produced Metal Gear games. So decades of amazing games is not true.
It's like Gabe: a god to many, a lazy game creator to me.
He's on his own now with a huge budget and a completely new game. I'm interested, but not hyped.
So in regards to kojima being behind amazing GAMES, He has been. MGS plays great, ZOE plays great, PT plays great, policenauts was great and so was snacher. He has a good track record, and for his mainline work of MGS the gameplay has improved with every iteration and the latest blew most similar games away.
Theres good reason to be excited about what hes working on next. That fact its so out there conceptually just makes it all the more intriguing.
Edit: BTW, can't wait to see some actually gameplay.
It's is one of my favorite games of the gen. And I have absolutely ZERO reverence for the series or for Kojima.
when a zelda is announced, you know what to expect. when a last of us is announced, you know what to expect. when a halo is announced, you know what to expect. there's no fucking surprise or intrigue within this industry anymore. everything is painfully predictable even when it's a new ip. they all just sit neatly in defined pigeon holes. it's nice to see something so refreshingly different, even if it is all conceptual storytelling stuff for now.
the fact we don't even know how this is going to play just increases the intrigue. it's like looking at a david lynch trailer. it might be batshit insane, but when he's the only one doing that in a sea of super hero movies, it makes for compelling viewing.
apparently the rain in the game makes you age rapidly and die. which i never really picked up from the trailer, i saw the character pinned by the truck aging, but didn't realize it was the rain doing that.
also the underwater area you see in the trailer is the purgatory you visit when you "die" in the game. reedus's character can basically have out of body experiences and you explore and pick up items in first person. they say it's kind of the equivalent of the continue screen with the countdown timer in arcade games, but it almost sounds more like the death state in something like prey (original)
the babies are also essentially batteries apparently. it wasn't until the baby is passed to reedus's character that we see his camera light arm activate. so i guess some sort of matrix like situation where people are used as batteries? who knows. lol
Yes, that baby in the pod does look like the unplugged guys in the real world in the movie Matrix, I was thinking that when I saw it but didn't notice his light came on after being connected. wow I need to look at some analysis videos on this trailer.
