For some reason the framerate is much worse in Far Harbor now. All these annoying micro stutters are when I go into the mist in that area. Plenty of complaints on forums about a much worse framerate.

In the first scene of the Pre-patch vs. post-patch video, there was a point where the Pre-patch version was very noticeably micro stuttering, it became so annoying that I instinctively turned my eyes away to the Post-patch side where it was all smooth. Also, the lighting in the Pre-patch version seems to be brighter than in the Post-patch version.

The framerate on the FPS analysis video is quite stable, if not perfect. There was a 3 fps drop at 1:48-1:49 when looking at the hardware store, but overall it's stable. Though it would have been nice to have seen some fights with some explosions, and specially in a city like Diamond City in the video - it's not hard to grab a few explosives or make a beeline for Diamond City if you follow a guide.

Again, thanks for the videos and images. While I have some heavy tolerance to them, that first scene definitely messed with my brain the first time I watched it when it started to micro stutter. I rewatched that scene and it was less pronounced since I knew it was coming, but the first time it rattled my brain. For those that can afford it, the Xbox One X version is definitely worth it for people who are sensitive to frame rate issues.

PS. You also made me want to go back and play Fallout 4, if only to complete some unfinished business. Damn you...

"For some reason"? They just clearly didn't test the patch that much. They just boosted up the resolution and graphic settings without enough testing or optimizing all areas of the game. There is a big chance this patch was done by a couple of the devs on short notice. I m getting tired of these updates that make games run worse. I understand the updates are free but it also gives games a new marketing push, so i wish more companies would put more effort and resources. Skyrim has issues on the x as well btw

The two scenes were not captured at the same time of day, that's why. The post-patch video was not recorded when you leave the vault for the first time. I didn't have time to play through all the intro again.

Okay, thanks for the reply.

And again, thanks for all these videos. It's great that Gamersyde is doing them as aside from Digital Foundry, you guys are the only ones capable of showing these games as they deserve to be shown - at their best - and the frame rate tests are a great bonus.

2017 has been a really fantastic year in gaming - one of the best.

PS. I know you guys must be very busy, but it would be nice to have a "End of Year" or "Christmas/New Year" special podcast where you, Blim and miguel share your thoughts for the year, the games, the news and what you guys are most looking forward to in 2018. (Just a suggestion.)

"on short notice?" They had a year and five months heads up the X was coming and the dev kits have been in their hands since at least May of this year.

Its just the usual Bethesda effort when it comes to just about anything technical or visual focused.

Wow. That's like six months. How did they not write a whole new engine by now?

I have this game to play, I just played the beggining were your family is iced and you go to the sniper, but the world seems... eh, just not thet intresting or a reason to play it after the experience of F3. Just seems way too similar. How should I play or what should I avoy dweling into (base building)?

Fallout 4 was a monumental disappoint for me. I can't really can't recommend it to anyone but the very hardest of hardcore Fallout fans.

I liked it despite its flaws. I avoided all base building except some minor stuff and my "home" base. I avoided the radiant quest lines (they're mostly bad). My biggest complaint is that it could use more meaty quests, but what's there isn't bad. I especially liked the companion quests. They're probably Bethesda's best companions.

this was the case for me too. world was uninteresting and i just tried to get through the story as fast as possible so i could shelve it. for comparison i searched out every location and quest in fallout 3 and new vegas. i don't know if it was the games lack of depth, or that the conversation trees were more basic, or whether the base building shit felt tacked on or that the story was utter shit...hell, maybe it was just too samey? whatever the case i didn't like it...but then i thought skyrim was a stinker too. maybe i'm just done with Bethesda's half assed productions?

The most disappointing thing about FO4 to me, as someone who found bits of it fairly appealing, was the DLC. There's only one that's worth playing if you're playing a moderately good or neutral character. Nuka World forces you to be a jerk or you lose out on most of its content. I haven't played Far Harbor yet, which I hear is pretty good. And I like that character. I may check it out sometime.
