The development of SC began 6 years ago. Why should it not look impressive after 8 years ?
If it's already reaching the point where it's disappointing visually, it sure as hell will by the time it reaches its "final" build...assuming it ever does.
Oh, nvm, didn't read the text.
For some reason, I'm really not believing the dev of this game last week that claimed they were ahead of The Last of Us in animations, a game from 2013 I might add. Actually that's being harsh on TLOU, 2007's Uncharted Drake's Fortune had procedural changing walk animations.
you can do a bunch of things in it. explore galaxies, play it like a 3rd person and first person shooter (running and gunning) collect space ships, race ships. collect armor and loot. complete story and side story quests. One of it's positive reception are it's ships, their attention to detail and how they handle.
Other than that you won't know anything about it until you download it.

=============
the reception of Star Citizen is fairly positive from the other side of the pay wall, on the outside no one will understand a thing about it. which the reasons can be from lack of a decent gaming PC or gamers not wanting to pay for access.
All i can say is good luck trying to understand the review of any MMO. Similar with Final Fantasy XIV many people hated on it, then all of a sudden the same reviewers are saying it has the greatest story telling in any JRPG.
All MMOs will have confusing reviews from the same reviewers.
Actually, looks pretty doable in this gen of consoles, lowering the draw distance and a little tweaks here and there and it will probably run fine in consoles
I would say that Cyberpunk has better material textures by far, the leather clothes look insane in there
TLOU II animations look unreal for this gen of games, and I can say more example for different videogames
My point is that each game has its own strong attribute, in which shines, and while Star Citizen seems to be good in a lot of them, in the end doesn't have one strong in particular
Now Squadron 42 on the other hand will be quite the spectacle.
it will feature a story inside of the Star Citizen universe and be fully single player.

I do enjoy the Blade Runner track though
but ok, consoles are far cheaper, so the comparison is a little unfair, can't compare a Ferrari with VW Polo

Let's face it already: CIG is doing something that no other developer has ever done before.
In Star Citizen you're flying in 100m multicrew ships with detailed walkable interior and internal particles like fog, smoke, volumetric lighting etc.
On the one hand CIG deliveres a gigantic scale. On the other hand CIG delivers extremly detailed locations like moon stations, outposts etc. which you can visit seamlessly without any loading screens.
When was the last time studios like Naughty Dog or Rockstar or Dice or Ubisoft have accomplished something like Star Citizen ?
star citizen is coma inducing enough for the entire industry, we don't need any more games like that thank you very much. lol
