the official website for Squadron 42 says that it's beta will go live in 2020. at least they confirmed this. I presume though that by this time the next gen will already be announced by then. making it possible to see console versions of it. regardless of the platforms i still would love to play it when it lands on pc.

And if it is actually finished, and more importantly, not janky, it's not going to look all that impressive anymore.
The development of RDR2 began 8 Years ago but nevertheless it looks rather nice.
The development of SC began 6 years ago. Why should it not look impressive after 8 years ?

RDR 2 nailed down it's visuals what, 2 years ago when it was first shown. And then it came out. We've seen this game step by step since inception and will continue to see it until release. The game hasn't really improved the way it looks and it's facial animation tech already looks outdated despite looking impressive 2 years ago. You can't just keep scrapping work and re-doing it as time progresses in some vain attempt to maintain bleeding edge visual impact. That's what's known as development hell and it's utterly futile for long dev cycles like this.

If it's already reaching the point where it's disappointing visually, it sure as hell will by the time it reaches its "final" build...assuming it ever does.

I skimmed through a 5 hour gameplay video recently and there were plenty of fairly amazing shots and visuals. It was mixed with bland looking natural environments though when you reached surfaces of moons or planets. The unfortunate thing is, and something devs will need to figure out at some point, it isn't practical to create planets and moons by hand. The only other option so far, procedural, almost always looks artificial and unconvincing. Even Horizon Zero Dawn couldn't convince me that it looked organic vs artificial. Procedural just isn't there yet.

Did they license Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack for this one or is it fanmade?
Oh, nvm, didn't read the text.
Fan made

Such a shame that people do not understand this.
From this 2 minute incredibly bland clip of very awkward walking animations? How would they understand any of this stuff he just described from this clip? Do those details translate to an impressive 2 minutes footage that has us all frothing at the mouth of how out of this word and unbelievable it looks. This is the first time I have ever seen this game in motion and its hardly impressive now is it.......... for even a 2017 game?

For some reason, I'm really not believing the dev of this game last week that claimed they were ahead of The Last of Us in animations, a game from 2013 I might add. Actually that's being harsh on TLOU, 2007's Uncharted Drake's Fortune had procedural changing walk animations.

Star Citizen is a space sim MMO.
you can do a bunch of things in it. explore galaxies, play it like a 3rd person and first person shooter (running and gunning) collect space ships, race ships. collect armor and loot. complete story and side story quests. One of it's positive reception are it's ships, their attention to detail and how they handle.

Other than that you won't know anything about it until you download it.

=============

the reception of Star Citizen is fairly positive from the other side of the pay wall, on the outside no one will understand a thing about it. which the reasons can be from lack of a decent gaming PC or gamers not wanting to pay for access.

All i can say is good luck trying to understand the review of any MMO. Similar with Final Fantasy XIV many people hated on it, then all of a sudden the same reviewers are saying it has the greatest story telling in any JRPG.

All MMOs will have confusing reviews from the same reviewers.

Looks good, you can't deny that, but impressive? Nah, for what we have seen this year, and for what we will see next year, this game doesn't have a shock factor

Actually, looks pretty doable in this gen of consoles, lowering the draw distance and a little tweaks here and there and it will probably run fine in consoles

I would say that Cyberpunk has better material textures by far, the leather clothes look insane in there
TLOU II animations look unreal for this gen of games, and I can say more example for different videogames

My point is that each game has its own strong attribute, in which shines, and while Star Citizen seems to be good in a lot of them, in the end doesn't have one strong in particular

Empty walking sim. Strap on the VR and walk around in an empty dead world, empty dead space, with procedural generated empty dead everything.

it receives updates, which some new areas look decent whereas older areas are more fleshed out. well anyways i'm more interested in squadron 42 TBH. it's newest trailer has a lot of action in it.

Star Citizen is a MMO. and just like many other MMOs, it will prove successful after enough updates.

Now Squadron 42 on the other hand will be quite the spectacle.
it will feature a story inside of the Star Citizen universe and be fully single player.

I assume it'll be as empty as this when you play it too.

I do enjoy the Blade Runner track though

looks miles ahead from any PS4Pro/XBoxOne game 2018/2019

but ok, consoles are far cheaper, so the comparison is a little unfair, can't compare a Ferrari with VW Polo

at least it doesn't look as empty and low detailed as games like Halo, God of War or Last of Us Part II

Not to forget that in all these games you're just running around with a little character on a little map. Nothing special. We've seen this all before.

Let's face it already: CIG is doing something that no other developer has ever done before.
In Star Citizen you're flying in 100m multicrew ships with detailed walkable interior and internal particles like fog, smoke, volumetric lighting etc.
On the one hand CIG deliveres a gigantic scale. On the other hand CIG delivers extremly detailed locations like moon stations, outposts etc. which you can visit seamlessly without any loading screens.

When was the last time studios like Naughty Dog or Rockstar or Dice or Ubisoft have accomplished something like Star Citizen ?

i think the bigger question would be to ask why would they want to? and ultimately to be thankful that they don't.

star citizen is coma inducing enough for the entire industry, we don't need any more games like that thank you very much. lol
