GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

We may not be entirely convinced by the potential of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, but when it comes to beautiful landscapes, Ubisoft's title is undoubtedly impressive. Here are two viewpoints we discovered last night and we wanted to share. We are sorry we don't have the time to propose the kind of environment videos we made for Horizon: Zero Dawn, but we hope we'll be able to do so later so you can appreciate the game's visual variety. Until then, enjoy the passing of time in the two following extracts, both captured in real time.

Looking great, hopefully there is enough content to put many hours into the game. If it has enough missions to play it for at least 8-10 hours then could be a good pick when it's about -70% on Steam :D

i'd imagine in total you'll be travelling from point A-B for about 8-10 hours.

As in basically every open world game out there. That's not really the game's main problem.

i never said it was a problem (although i don't enjoy it personally now that you mention it. travelling for 5 minutes for a 1 minute mission doesn't seem worth it), just saying that's about how long in total you'll probably end up traveling for after the missions are all complete. it took me about 20 minutes to drive from the beta start area to the lake in the new beta area alone. it's an excessively large world to get across for very little reward.

I think it does present a problem though. Vehicle handling made long treks through the beta a little daunting to me, because I didn't think getting from point A to point B was fun. Made things a bit of a chore. And that's where the game left me wondering if it really should be set in a sandbox. I wonder why there aren't more games that try to approach the middle ground. Sorta like early Crytek.. big open maps but not a open-ended sandbox.

exactly. i feel like this game would have been much better if they'd have approached it like sniper elite 4 has. i would hope the more focused approach would result in more complex multi part objectives and more considered level layout and a much more thought out and intricate design. not just endless copy past huts and buildings with barely anything inside them with some grunts walking around outside. MGSV could have benefited from the same sort of focus.

every scenario the game threw at you in the beta could be handled in the exact same way. it's just not a very fun game imo.

Yeah.. that's a more modern example of what I was talking about. Big scenario maps but not quite open world.

Worst decision Ubi have made in a long time making this open world! Gotta get that checklist gameplay in at all costs it seems.

Can't you buy a chopper and jump out of it?

I have no clue about the game outside of videos here. I also think I'm the only one left in the world with a 6 series geforce card. I'm afraid to buy the game.

If I'm not mistaken, it's quite easy to find used GeForce 900 series GPUs for very low prices, if the new ones' prices aren't low enough for your budget.

Having said that, if buying a new GPU is not an option, there are a few videos of Wildland's betas running on a GTX 600 series' GPUs. While I don't know which GPU you have, most people seem to have the GTX 680 of that series, so I went with that.

It seems you can run the game at a mix of High and Medium settings at 1080p@30fps, as the video below indicates. Note the description that says that while the in-game resolution was set to 1280 x 720, the Benchmark ran at 1920 x 1080, so those results are from the 1080p resolution. And the game still looked good imho.

I have the 680. I was sli, but the other died. I can run most games 60+ fps no problem, but with what everyone has said about the games performance, it really makes me skeptical on buying it. It doesn't seem very compatible. I have no problem buying a new video card, but if I did that, I might as well build a new rig. The issue isn't budget as much as work related stuff. Having to start over and get my OS back up to speed with all the programs, etc is a pain in the ass. Plus, it's one of those, "would you upgrade just for a game?" situation. There isn't enough games that I can't play just yet.

Thanks for that link.

No problem. And if you're worried about the game's performance, you can do this, buy Wildlands on Steam and play for 1 hour and a half - just be sure to have a smartphone with a counter beside the screen or to your side - and then try to blow many things up, fly a helicopter very high and fast, and basically anything to push the game's visual effects to their maximum so you can see how well it performs on your PC.

If it doesn't run well or you just simply don't like the game, since you bought it on Steam and played under 2 hours, you would have 14 days to ask for a refund. You can do this with Ubisoft's games since their return policy on Uplay is not very good, but they're all on Steam anyway.

Btw, you don't need to build a new PC right away, you can just buy the GPU and use it with the old PC just fine, this way you don't need to build a PC right now, but do get all the advantages associated with a new GPU. This is what I did before building my current PC last year and had no problems.

And lastly, you can use your old SSD(s) and/or HDD(s) on a new PC without needing to reinstall the OS or programs. But even if you decided to buy a new SSD or HDD, you can always use a program to make a copy of the OS's configuration and programs installed, and then paste the copy on the new SSD or HDD. There's many programs to do this that are free and reliable.

I hope you enjoy the game, while it has many flaws, it's still great if played with friends - not pubs. Also, a tip someone gave to make the game more enjoyable was to turn off the HUD completely and play at the highest difficulty setting, since the game is still very easy. Either way, good luck!

Developers need to get off the "my map is bigger than yours" dick in open world games. This trend just kills creativity and creates boredom. Remember when games had optional objectives?

I played it for 4 unbelievable hours. I enjoy the game a lot. I don't know what the deal is with people complaining about the open world. Maybe it's because I've played Arma that I'm used to going long distances to each point of interest... either way, this game can't compare to Arma in that regard.

I played coop a bit with a couple of public assholes, even that was enjoyable believe it or not. I don't regret the purchase at all. I need a better video card to run it better, but I'm not complaining with 50fps average.

Some people are just sick of open world games I think. My biggest complaint w/ the beta was the vehicle controls though. It made travel a bit of a chore to me. But I bet the game is pretty fun co-op which has me reconsidering the whole proposition a little bit.

The controls of the Choppers and Planes are bad, not GTA2 bad, but they're pretty bad. I was hoping they'd control at least like BF or Arma, but they're quite unique and I don't have it down just yet.

I think, like Sdarts said, if you co-op this game with people you know, it's got to be ten times funner. I just don't know anyone to test this theory. haha

Now you're making me guilty of not buying the game right away. Yesterday I was even thinking that if bought it, I would add you so we could play together.

But unfortunately I have many other games to play before and am actually trying to finish Tales of Berseria as fast as possibly before NieR: Automata drops, which I'm very excited to play.

Also, after playing the open beta of Wildlands I decided to wait for when the game drops in price before buying it. I'm not gonna say anything bad about it, just that I've read about 30-40 threads of people's opinions of the game during open beta on both the official forums and on the Wildlands Reddit, and for me at least, it's not worth $60.

Really don't want to make you or anyone feel bad about your purchase. If you enjoy the game a lot, which you said you do, then it's worth every cent. And like I said before, I hope you have a lot of fun with the game. Try asking in the "What's up?" shoutbox if anyone else here on Gamersyde has bought the game as well, and then ask if they wanna join you. I'm sure some people will. Good luck!
