Considering the size and scope of what CD Projekt Red is trying to achieve with Cyberpunk 2077, and the fact that they're still testing new ideas and mechanics to see what works and what doesn't even at this phase of development, we shouldn't judge this demo too much.

Because like they themselves have stated multiple times (like in this Gamersyde's article's description):

"Although this is probably not the same game you’ll see on your screen when we launch".
I mean, the video itself has a watermark saying 'Work in Progress - Does Not Represent The Final Look Of The Game' so I'd have to agree that this is probably just a prototype or alpha footage, which maybe that's why the press were excited because it looks pretty awesome for just being an alpha build and that means the final game can be even more awesome, thus the hyperbole.

I think it looks really impressive. If we include visual fidelity + level of detail + activity + scale, then I can see why some people are having doubts how well this can run on current gen consoles. I mean it has pretty substantially better graphics than Mankind Divided at much bigger scale and activity...I would say in terms of visual fidelity Death Stranding and TLoU2 may be more impressive, but neither has the amount going on here. All three I think are cross gen most likely.

That too, trying to make a game seem almost like a living breathing world is what CD Projekt Red seems to be going for without sacrificing either visual aesthetics, scale, or how populated the maps are. I definitely wasn't expecting to see Night City to have people walking around almost everywhere to where it feels like you're actually in a world with people in it compared to stuff like Deus Ex where much of the game feels empty and almost like a ghost town at times.

I have to be honest, I'm not nearly as blown away as the media was. I'm not blown away at all. Of everything in this footage I like the part with the crowded street the best. Honestly if had not known this was CDPR I wouldn't have believed it. It's only 50 minutes but these characters did not convince me at all. In Witcher 3 you early on meet very interesting and memorable characters and this goes on throughout the whole game. Characters you can easily care about and that are damn well written. I don't like any of these characters at all. I guess we'll see.

What's impressive to me is the style/tech/environment density and the assumption that the game will be one seamless large city. The demo definitely had its rough edges but the foundation appears to be very strong.

I just looked at these old gameplay videos for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - and I don't see THAT much of an improvement in Cyberpunk 2077:

It indeed looks good but the lighting appears much flatter to me, that and significant difference in the sense of scale.

The vids look much better when viewed locally, but what strikes me most is the amount of debris lying around in Golem City, Night City seems to be the "cleanest slum on earth". ;) Golem City on the other hand has many locations which just look meticulously crafted.
Also, it's true that the world of DXMD was divided into hubs due to hardware limitations at the time of its release, which also limited the open world feeling a bit, but the story suited it perfectly.
And, as I wrote earlier, I expected a little more from a game like Cyberpunk 2077 which generated this amount of media hype.

Then it's even more impressive city simulation.
But you misunderstood me a bit, I really like the demo, mostly everything is very smooth specially going in and out of buildings. I just mentioned that the lack of those animations is weird since everything else is extremely detailed as you mentioned the trigger thing. I wouldn't hesitate to play the game even in its current state, it's just so my type. Assuming that it will have a great story is reasonable and everybody who like Deus Ex type futuristic art style will love this game, I'm sure that I will love it :)

Pretty much my opinion, I'm a big fan of Cyberpunk ever since I first picked up Human Revolution, so seeing more titles besides Deus Ex use that sort of setting makes me happy, definitely when the people behind Witcher aren't afraid to adapt the original pen and paper rpg to spin their own mature and visceral take on the genre, because that means it won't be a Deus Ex clone either.

Wish they would have produced the demo video in 4K. It looks good but it definitely looks soft on my 4K set. The initial trailer looked much sharper. And I coulda swore I read that the game was actually demoed in 4K. Guess they just didn't want to put out a massive 4K video. Although they could have done so using HEVC and it wouldn't have resulted in a huge file size.

I think we need to remember, that this demo is preAlpha-work. CD-Project Red said, nearly everything could change til release. Plus, the resolution, even in this uncompressed video, seems a bit blurry, probably because of performance reasons. If I imagine playing the final version myself on my tv, moving through these crowded places in Night City, I'm pretty hyped too.

Close to it, or there in, yeah.

This reminds me of the first time I started seeing Xbox games coming from the PS2. Obviously not in terms of stuff like shaders, but in terms of geometric detail on everything. It's sort of reminds me of seeing Wreckless on the Xbox for the first time. The amount of stuff packed onto the screen was just impressive.

Oh, and some of this game was definitely lifted directly from Dredd. The mega blocks, highways, inhaler drug, fatties on wheelchairs and belly wheels (a Mega City 1 trademark) and they even had an old school looking yellow van being chased. The shootout in the block and inside it looks almost exactly like Peach Trees, right down to the shop and food vendors and the level system. It's particularly impressive in scale just on that alone, when you can peer across the massive atrium to the other side and see people walking around. Then the part as the lift descends and it exposes the outside highway that's saturated with traffic. Walking outside into the street and seeing loads of NPC's and cars, individually doing their own thing, and all without having to somehow mask that from loading in. It's hugely impressive. Everything about this, from the design, the setting, to the gameplay looks absolutely stellar.

Graphically speaking, I think Cyberpunk a big leap over Deus Ex to me. The rendering and lighting in particularly look more primitive in Deus Ex. In addition, the level of geometry is a completely different level. I think your vids only highlight that difference...

I agree, with all the Hype and reading everyone being excited as hell I was expecting the second coming, you know...a true next gen looking game and nope while it looks OK I am not seeing anything I would call next gen and I am 100% not wowed by anything I have seen in the video.

I know it is early footage but I very much doubt the final game will be polished that much from what we are seeing that it will look sooo much better that it will look NEXT GEN GOOD. It all seems very Linear too and not very open world take your own path. Like when you took the female body outside of the building and they pushed you away and they took her I would like to know if you wanted could you have exited the building by scaling down it or some other way since you were already outside anyway..the person playing the game just went back inside like it was all scripted as if there was zero choice.

I will get it at some point but right now its more of a wait and get it for £20 from cdkeys kinda game

It's mixed. an overall bump in quality and animations. though it does look like mankind divided with larger traffic. as far as i know Deus Ex 3 might be announced shortly after this game doing the same thing.

biggest disappointment is that it's first person only, there's way too many first person shooters flooding the market.

currently you have - Atomic heart, Metro Exodus, World War 3, DOOM Eternal, COD, Battlefield5, Rage2, Squadron 42, GTFO, World War Z, Insurgency, The Walking Dead, Remnant From the Ashes, Fear The Wolves, SCORN and now cyberpunk. this sort of reminds of the situation with Rage and Titanfall 2.

Yes, because all the game's you listed have character creation and rpg-like mechanics like augmentation or bullet-time seen here. Just because it's first person and you use a gun doesn't make it a shooter. Same thing with Deus Ex where there's a lot more to it than just shooting, there was even a part in the video where the player character used melee mantis blades instead. Calling a first-person action rpg a shooter is like calling Mass Effect a third-person shooter and stuff like dragon age hack and slash because the character uses a sword or something. The only reason why you think there's too many First-person shooters is because you're narrowing down genres that aren't even explicitly shooters.

cyberpunk is a anticipated title of like 5 or 6 years (me included into the hype) but it's releasing to a flooded market. there's always going to be a new first person shooter with better tech, yearly. Since it's much like Deus Ex it's going to share much of it's reception. so much that there will be a Deus Ex 3 (5 to be exact). when Rage first launched everyone was thinking borderlands...and no, rage in my opinion was better than borderlands. Rage drowned in reception because you already have other FPSs trying to impress.

well anyways, many seem to love it while others find it chore seeking, which is also in Deus Ex. to me it feels slightly better than Deus Ex. but i also know that these implementations (down to scale and better graphics) can also be implemented in the next Deus Ex game. so it feels like this game could fade over time. but we'll see how things go for this game. CD Projekt has great narrative.
